The Happy Harrop Shield

Founder member of Bath Lacrosse Club, Jon Harrop has held most positions in the club, but has always retained the secretarial post until 2006, which he maintained with great efficiency. As a player Jon was first team Goalkeeper for 10 years including the very first match ever played by Bath against Three bridges in 1983.

A great ambassador to Lacrosse in the South of England, without Jon's enthusiasm, Lacrosse would not be at all as big as it is today.

Since retiring officially, though he has played a couple of games when called upon Jon coordinates all referee training for the ELA and SEMLA.

Jon is also responsible for the Bath 8's, the UK's largest short format tournament, open to any club team in the world. This has boomed into a curtain raiser for most teams in the country acting as a great way to team build and warm up for the forthcoming season ahead.

The 'Happy Harrop Shield' is played for every time the Cougars come up against the Bristol Bombers as we are two teams lacrosse teams that have been built from the bottom up through hard graft, and we believe this is a fitting tribute to a true legend in Lacrosse in the South of England.

Many thanks Jon !

Cheltenham Cougars beat Bristol Bombers 8 goals to 5 to win the first playing for the Happy Harrop Shield.
